Personal/Contact Info
AS
WRITER. Writing is a first love for Mr. Sedgewick.
At the age of 19 he began this journey as an undergraduate at the University
of Iowa Writers' Workshop.
Jerry Sedgewick's
commentaries have been published in the local "StarTribune"
newspaper and by the "Catholic Digest." The book, "Quick
Photoshop for Research: A Guide to Digital Imaging for Photoshop 5x, 6x,
& 7x." is available from Springer Press. This book will be updated
as of September, 2006 and made available as an e-book. He has also written
a book chapter to be published by Humana Press.
Jerry has created
two covers for "Science," and has been a co-author in numerous
scientific papers. For more information check
cv-resume-short4.pdf.
Mr. Sedgewick wrote,
produced and appeared in a one-man, multimedia performance entitled "Raw
Cud" in 2001. He made several short films for this production, wrote
lyrics and melody lines for the musical sections, and read from his collection
of cultural commentaries and prose poetry.
Jerry has completed
a novel entitled "The Gospel of Mary According to Marg," and
is searching for a publisher. He is also looking for a theatre company
to perform his musical, "Moses the Black."
AS
PHOTOGRAPHER.
Jerry Sedgewick has spent over 20 years as a professional photographer,
working as a commercial, editorial and biological photographer. In the
last 15 years, Jerry has specialized in digital imaging for the sciences
using various light microscopy devices.
His photographic
interests are divided into explorations of flowers and fruit from an insect's
perspective and comparative photos (donned "photocomparisons")
of humans.
Photographs of nature
reflect a desire to see innocently: to record how light travels along
and through flower and fruit topography in ways visible to a passing bee
or an investigative ant. He is simultaneously fulfilling his desire to
see nature in visionary ways and his desire to place art into the hands
of those who desire to add beauty to their walls.
PhotoComparisons
mark the combination of Jerry's background in writing and his penchant
for capturing visual imagery as almost a scientific study. His desire
arises out of passionate interest in conveying the oddities of our culture,
as well as the vagaries of life as pilgrims on Earth. If a picture is
worth a thousand words, then Photocomparisons are worth two thousand.
These photographs,
for the time being, are only shown on this website. To date, Jerry has
published "12 Minutes
of TV." Gallery showings and further publications of his work
are forthcoming.
JERRY
SEDGEWICK AS SCIENTIST.
Jerry Sedgewick has worked as the director of a light microscopy/digital
imaging/genomics lab since 1998 at the University of Minnesota (www.bipl.umn.edu).
He is currently working on an invention for improving the light source
for several applications, including the imaging of materials generated
for molecular biology, for light microscopy, and for in vivo.
PERSONAL.
Jerry lives with his wife, Jan Shafer, and two sons, 18-year-old
Levi and 14-year-old Luke. They take up their residence in an out-of-the-way
neighborhood in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Jerry and family
make their second home at St. Luke's church in St. Paul. Our hope is to
fulfill what a fourth century bishop once said: "the best testimony
to Christianity is to be fully alive."
